In 2009, our Twinning committee started “Amigos Unidos” (translates to “close friends”) Grade School Program, for the educational and physical welfare of the grade school children in the extensive community of Taulabé, Honduras. Proceeds go to provide school supplies, book bags, shoes, and school uniforms to over one hundred grade school children.
In 2018 we started the first of three breakfast programs for schools in three remote mountain villages. The teacher at each school obtain the supplies, and each morning a breakfast is prepared by the mothers of these children and served before class begins.
On our recent visit in 2022 we added two new schools to this program. Children at Modesto Rodas Alvarado grade school are now also receiving the necessary items to attend school. We have also added LaCeibita, a kindergarten to our breakfast program. The kindergarten was given a room to use at one of the grade schools, needed a wall, which was constructed to give them a room to have kindergarten classes.
